Biography I have worked as a graphic recorder and graphic facilitator since 2010, in a range of industries across the private and public sectors: health, technology, education, community development, and more. My style is very cartoon-inspired, and I pride myself on forging long-term relationships with my clients. I distinguish myself based on: * business knowledge: With over 20 years of experience working with organisations large and small, including working for several years as a User Experience designer, I can navigate the concepts and acronyms of just about any industry—there's a good chance I'll have seen it before. * flexible: When things go wrong, I'm always happy to roll with the punches and find a solution that works for the client. * innovative: Have a crazy idea for how to make your event stand out? I'm always exploring new ways to weave graphic facilitation into an event, whether that's through digital scribing, virtual reality, augmented reality, or something entirely different. Some of my career highlights include: * capturing the Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress over 5 days, in front of over 12,000 delegates * graphically recording Malcolm Gladwell when he gave a presentation at the Melbourne Convention Centre * facilitating a group of foster carers to create a poster that visually captured the lifetime journey of a carer * sketching the TEDxDocklands event, including speakers such as Tiff Hall and Nick Bracks I occasionally run training courses on sketchnoting and graphic recording. I also recently authored several chapters for The World of Visual Facilitation (Visual Connection Publishers, July 2019), a 655-page tome covering all aspects of visual practice, with contributions from over 50 authors worldwide, including pioneers of the field such as Brandy Agerbeck and Mike Rohde.

Testimonial 1 Matt's sketch note taking was a highlight of the event. He was able to draw out key points in a way that engaged and enlightened, and contributed to bringing the different communities at the event together.

Testimonial 2 Having Matt capturing the stage moments was a unique experience for our guests, and people loved seeing him work his magic on the paper.

Testimonial 3 Having Matt illustrating at the workshops brought a really engaging and interactive tool that really made the workshop attendees feel heard, understood, and also special (I think they liked that he drove "all the way from Melbourne" to be at the workshops and also that he was a professional illustrator who was drawing what they said - those things put together is what made them feel special). I think that the participants really enjoyed watching their words 'come to life' in front of them too. At times I also think that some of the group members (who were teenagers) would get bored with what I was talking about, and at those times they would often watch Matt while he was drawing, which really helped me a lot! Having the illustrations on the wall also really helped the group remember things they had previously said and topics that they had previously talked about, which was very helpful for me as I could use the illustrations to prompt further conversation.

Testimonial 3 Name Woody Boyce, Federation University Australia
